Cyber Best Practice Project: Emerging Technologies

AI Security Risks & Opportunities

AI Security Initiatives

The National Cyber Practice (NCP) is a group the University of New South Wales interested in strong cyber security governance for Australian businesses. The group sits within the School of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and works closely with SECedu and Cyber Security Education Australia. The NCP conducts research on attitudes, concerns, risks and opportunities in emerging trends of AI and cyber security, with the aim to provide advice and guidelines to inform best practice.

In mid 2024, the NCP was commissioned to conduct an investigation into the security implications arising from artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The study is funded by Telstra in close collaboration with the Australian Federal Government’s Executive Cyber Council and the Tech Council of Australia.

We are inviting a select group of distinguished executives and senior leaders across the Australian business community to participate in this important study into the attitudes towards the security threats and opportunities posed by advancements in AI technology, from the perspective of the Australian business and security sectors.

The study will explore present and emerging security risks of AI, identify the actions mature organisations are taking towards investment and risk management, and seeks to identify what good AI security governance and oversight looks like. The project will produce a AI Security literature review, final report with recommendations and a n awareness podcast series.
